Army arrests suspected courier with 500 rounds of ammunition in Kogi

Nigerian Army Arrests Suspected Ammunition Courier in Kogi State

LOKOJA, Nigeria — The Nigerian Army has apprehended a suspected ammunition courier along the Obajana–Lokoja Road in Kogi State, where officials found concealed bullets in a bag of maize.

The suspect, identified as Yahaya Umar, was captured by troops from the 12 Brigade following intelligence on an arms trafficking operation in the North-Central region. Military sources reported that Umar was transporting 500 rounds of 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition, hidden in an attempt to evade security checks.

Investigators suggest that Umar is a significant figure in the logistics of weapon and ammunition distribution for terrorist groups in the area. Preliminary findings indicate that the ammunition was given to him in Obajana Forest before he intended to deliver it to Dikko Junction in Suleja, Niger State, for another suspected operative.

The Nigerian Army stated that Umar remains in custody and is under interrogation as security agencies work to dismantle the broader criminal network involved in arms trafficking. A military source emphasized that efforts to track down additional members of the syndicate are ongoing.
