Police return lost bag to owner in Kano

Kano Police Recover Lost Bag, Return It to Owner

KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Police Command has successfully recovered a lost bag and returned it to its owner, according to a statement from the police.

The bag was initially discovered by Abba Abdullahi Abubakar, a tricycle operator. He found the item after a passenger inadvertently left it behind on November 8, 2025, while being transported from Hotoro to the Naibawa Yan Lemo area of Kano.

In his efforts to locate the owner, Abubakar announced the finding on local radio stations. After several unsuccessful attempts to identify the owner, he turned the bag over to the police headquarters in Bompai for safekeeping.

Police later issued a public notice, leading to the claim by Abdullahi Saleh, a resident of Bursali Village in the Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State. Upon verifying his identity and providing proof of ownership, Saleh received the bag, which contained clothing and an undisclosed amount of money.

Kano Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended both Abubakar and Saleh for their integrity. “Such conduct strengthens public trust in the police and promotes the values of honesty, integrity, and community partnership,” Bakori stated. He also called on the public to continue assisting the police in returning lost property, emphasizing that these actions contribute to better community-police relations.
