Jigawa State Government Begins Construction of New Hostels at Jahun College of Health Science and Technology

The Jigawa State government has launched the construction of three new hostel blocks at the College of Health Science and Technology in Jahun. This initiative follows a recent fire that caused significant damage to part of the female hostel facility.

Governor Umar Namadi has instructed contractors to prioritize quality and timely completion of the projects, aimed at enhancing the welfare and learning conditions for students. The directive was issued during a follow-up inspection at the college after an unscheduled visit over the weekend.

The planned construction includes one female hostel and two male hostel blocks, in addition to ongoing repairs of the fire-damaged female accommodation.

During his visit, Governor Namadi also reviewed progress on emergency water supply projects, electricity enhancements, and healthcare support facilities previously approved by the state government. He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work and reiterated his administration’s commitment to bolstering healthcare education in the state.

The governor emphasized the college’s role in addressing the shortage of healthcare workers in Jigawa State and nationally, especially amid ongoing pressures on the healthcare system.

He urged faculty, staff, and students to take an active role in supporting government efforts by properly maintaining school facilities, particularly water and sanitation systems.

Some students, speaking anonymously, raised concerns about unsanitary conditions in certain hostel toilets, calling the situation detrimental to health. They warned that inadequate hygiene could increase the risk of communicable diseases and appealed for improvements in staff availability for enhanced academic activities.

Despite these challenges, students acknowledged the governor’s prompt intervention, particularly regarding the hostel reconstruction and other infrastructural upgrades.

The latest measures by the Jigawa State government are expected to improve student welfare, strengthen healthcare training, and contribute to the production of skilled medical personnel, ultimately enhancing healthcare delivery in the region and beyond.
