Families Demand Action for Hostages Held by Somali Pirates
KARACHI, Pakistan — Families of ten crew members taken hostage by Somali pirates protested in Karachi on Tuesday, demanding the immediate release of their loved ones. The crew of the cargo ship Honour 25 has been held captive for more than three weeks.
The uptick in hijackings off the coast of Somalia has raised concerns, particularly in the context of rising tensions linked to the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. Families gathered outside the Karachi Press Club, calling on the government to take urgent measures to secure the crew’s release.
Efforts to negotiate with the pirates have so far been unsuccessful. The situation remains fluid as authorities assess possible actions amid increasing piracy incidents in the region.
