Kwara cleric bags life jail for rape of minors

Prophet Sentenced to Life Imprisonment on Rape Charges Involving Minors
Ilorin, Nigeria — Prophet Ajiboye Abayomi Olayinka, General Overseer of the Mission House of Divine Land of Joy and Prayer Ministry, was sentenced to life imprisonment Wednesday for multiple counts of rape and unlawful sexual intercourse with minors.
The ruling was delivered by Justice Hammed Aliyu Gegele at the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin. In addition to the life sentence for the sexual offenses, Olayinka received a 14-year prison term for illegal abortion.
The conviction follows a thorough investigation by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Kwara State Command’s Gender Unit. The investigation began after Olayinka’s arrest in May 2024, stemming from allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation involving underage victims in Agah Village, located in Ilorin South Local Government Area.
Once the investigation concluded, the case was forwarded to the Kwara State Ministry of Justice, which facilitated the prosecution leading to the conviction.
NSCDC Commandant Abbas Nda Mohammed praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward despite facing threats and intimidation. He also commended the officers of the Gender Unit for their professionalism and diligence, which were vital to the case’s successful prosecution.
The Commandant expressed gratitude to the Kwara State Ministry of Justice for its commitment to justice and collaboration throughout the legal process.
Abbas reiterated the NSCDC’s dedication to protecting children and vulnerable individuals, emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence accountable, regardless of their social or professional standings.
