Lagos residents protest prolonged blackout at Ikeja Electric office

Residents Protest Prolonged Power Outages in Agbado Area of Lagos
AGBADO, Lagos – Local residents gathered outside the Ikeja Electric office on Wednesday to protest ongoing power outages that have affected their community for several weeks.
The demonstration, primarily attended by women, included protesters who blocked the entrance to the electricity distribution company’s facility. They demanded immediate restoration of power supply to their area, expressing frustration over the prolonged blackout, which has disrupted economic activities and heightened the financial burden on households relying on alternative power sources.
“Residents have reported inadequate communication from the company regarding the outage’s cause and the timeline for restoration,” said a community spokesperson. Many asserted that their repeated complaints to Ikeja Electric had gone largely unanswered, prompting the decision to protest.
While chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards, demonstrators urged government authorities to step in and address the ongoing electricity crisis affecting their community.
In response to the protest, Ikeja Electric officials asked residents to remain calm and explained that the outage was due to technical issues. The company assured the community that steps were being taken to rectify the problem and restore stable electricity supply to the affected areas.
The protest highlighted increasing frustration among Lagos residents regarding frequent electricity supply disruptions and the adverse economic effects of sustained blackouts on both households and businesses.
