Nigerian Troops Neutralize Suspected Terrorists in Sokoto, Katsina
Troops engaged in Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralized suspected members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group and recovered weapons during recent operations in Sokoto and Katsina States.
The Defense Headquarters of Nigeria announced these developments in a press release dated May 15, 2026.
According to the statement, troops responded to a distress call regarding an alleged attempt by suspected terrorists to set fire to a Nigerian Immigration Service facility in Ruwa Wiri village, located in the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
In a subsequent engagement, the military reported that two suspected terrorists were killed in a gun battle, while others fled the scene. Following the confrontation, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a motorcycle during a follow-up operation.
In a separate incident in the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on patrol encountered a group of suspected terrorists with rustled livestock near the Danya Bakwai settlement. The suspects abandoned 62 livestock upon engaging with the troops. The recovered animals were later returned to their rightful owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia.
The statement affirmed that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eradicating terrorism and banditry in the region.
