Governor Uba Sani Highlights Kaduna Polytechnic’s Role in Technical Education During 70th Anniversary
KADUNA, Nigeria — Kaduna Polytechnic has established itself as a cornerstone of technical education, innovation, and entrepreneurship, producing graduates who significantly impact various industries and public life, according to Governor Uba Sani.
The governor’s remarks were made at the polytechnic’s 70th anniversary and combined convocation ceremony held at the Tudun Wada Main Campus on Saturday. As an alumnus of the institution, Governor Sani received the prestigious Fellowship Award, which he noted represents not only personal recognition but also the collective commitment of the Kaduna State Government to promoting educational advancement and youth empowerment.
“The sustainable development of any society relies on deliberate investment in knowledge, skills, and innovation,” Sani stated, emphasizing the importance of technical education. He added that in today’s rapidly changing global economy, vocational education is essential for industrialization, agricultural transformation, digital innovation, and enhancing national competitiveness.
“Polytechnics must occupy a central place in our development strategy,” Sani remarked, describing these institutions as integral to productivity, enterprise, and human capital formation. He reported that the state government is currently sponsoring 775 students in various programs at Kaduna Polytechnic, an effort aimed at removing financial barriers to education.
The governor also announced the establishment of three Institutes of Vocational Training and Skills Development located in Rigachikun, Samaru Kataf, and Soba. He highlighted that these institutes, certified by the National Board for Technical Education, are among the most well-equipped skills development facilities in Nigeria.
“Through these interventions, we are positioning Kaduna State as a national hub of technical excellence while addressing the persistent skills gap that hinders local economic growth,” Sani stated.
In addition, he noted that the Panteka Market, recognized as Africa’s largest informal skills hub, has undergone modernization under his administration. The market now features advanced tools and training facilities that align with the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework, aiming to uplift over 38,000 apprentices by preserving traditional craftsmanship and integrating modern production techniques.
Governor Sani indicated plans for the construction of a new Lecture Theatre Complex at the polytechnic and promised improvements to access roads within the campus to enhance the learning environment.
He urged the private sector, development partners, alumni, and philanthropic organizations to support Kaduna Polytechnic through funding, infrastructure partnerships, and mentorship initiatives, emphasizing that the future of the nation relies on the strength of its educational institutions.
