Lagos State Police Arrest Ten in Connection with APC Primary Election Violence

LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended ten individuals in relation to violent disturbances during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in the Egbe area of Alimosho Local Government Area.

The incident unfolded on Saturday on Onilewura Street along Liasu Road, where it was reported that a group of hoodlums infiltrated the election venue, discharging firearms and igniting panic among party members and local residents.

The violence disrupted the electoral proceedings, compelling voters, party officials, and other participants to flee in search of safety. Several attendees sustained injuries during the chaos, and the suspects allegedly took advantage of the situation to rob individuals of mobile phones and other valuables.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer ASP Femi Adeoye confirmed the arrests but refuted claims of fatalities, stating that no deaths occurred during the incident. He noted that the suspects are currently held at the Ikotun Divisional Police Station, where an ongoing investigation will further explore the events leading to the attack.

During the operation, police recovered a locally fabricated firearm from the detained individuals. “The hoodlums responsible for the disturbance have been arrested, and a weapon was recovered from them,” Adeoye said.

He reassured the public and APC supporters that law enforcement will conduct a comprehensive investigation to identify the individuals behind the attack and establish the motive for the violence. Adeoye emphasized that anyone found responsible for the incident would face legal consequences.

The police spokesperson urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
