Deputy Speaker’s Office clarifies controversy over Abia School Project

Deputy Speaker’s Office Responds to Misleading Report on Bende Conference Facility
The Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has labeled a report by TrackNG regarding the construction and furnishing of a state-of-the-art conference and e-learning facility at Bende Secondary Grammar School in Abia State as misleading and politically motivated.
In a statement issued by Udora Orizu, the Special Assistant on Press Affairs to the Deputy Speaker, the office clarified that while legislators work to attract projects and development initiatives to their constituencies, the responsibility for implementation and oversight lies solely with the executive branch and its affiliated agencies.
Although the office typically refrains from commenting on publications, it chose to address this report to prevent public misinformation. It criticized the use of the Deputy Speaker’s image in connection with the project, describing it as “curious and mischievous,” given that he has no role in implementation or oversight.
The statement urged the appropriate procuring agency to conduct a thorough investigation into the project and to hold accountable any individuals awarded contracts related to it, in accordance with the law.
The office emphasized its primary concern is ensuring the completion and delivery of the project for the benefit of the local community. Additionally, it noted that the initial identification of Bende Secondary Grammar School as the project site was an error, as the school already features an ICT Center.
