Anambra Police Arrest Suspect in Abduction and Rape Case

Anambra State police have arrested a 30-year-old man, Okechukwu Chinweko, in connection with allegations of abduction, rape, and unlawful possession of a firearm. The arrest took place on May 16 in the Umudike community within the Awka South Local Government Area.

State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, announced the arrest in a statement issued Tuesday in Awka. He noted that police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad, acting on credible information, raided a suspected hideout where Chinweko was located.

Chinweko, who is also known by the nickname “Bullet,” was apprehended with a homemade Beretta pistol and eight rounds of 9mm ammunition. Ikenga reported that the suspect has a tattoo reading “Bullet” on one arm.

Preliminary information indicates that Chinweko is associated with an incident from May 2, 2026, in which he allegedly abducted and raped a woman. Police intervened at the scene, rescuing the victim, who was discovered with various injuries. Following the incident, Chinweko reportedly fled the area.

The investigation into the case is ongoing as authorities work to gather more information on the matter.
