Troops Thwart Terrorist Attack, Rescue Victims in Northeast Nigeria
Northeast Nigeria – Members of the Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI, successfully repelled a terrorist attack and rescued victims in recent operations, while a 17-year-old relative of a terrorist surrendered to authorities in the region.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the operation, reported that a group of terrorists, traveling on motorcycles, was quickly detected as they approached a local town from multiple directions. The troops responded promptly with heavy firepower, including mortar engagements, which compelled the attackers to retreat in disarray. During the operation, troops recovered ammunition and combat equipment.
In a separate operation, troops alongside Civilian Joint Task Force operatives apprehended two individuals suspected of collaborating with Boko Haram in Gubio. These suspects, identified as cattle rearers, are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.
Additionally, acting on reliable intelligence from a surrendered terrorist associate, troops arrested Umar Ahmadu, a suspected logistics supplier. Ahmadu purportedly confessed to providing materials to terrorist groups on several occasions and is currently being interrogated.
Earlier, the 17-year-old family member of a terrorist surrendered to troops along the Gwoza–Limankara axis after fleeing from a terrorist stronghold in the Mandara Mountains. Preliminary investigations suggest that continued military pressure and a shortage of basic necessities within the enclave influenced his decision to surrender.
In a further demonstration of their operational effectiveness, troops from Operation HADIN KAI also intercepted and rescued two men who had been kidnapped from Mafa town. According to the statement, the victims escaped captivity with impaired vision and have been handed over for medical evaluation and necessary care.
