Gunmen invade Plateau community, kill vigilante officer, injure others

Vigilante Officer Killed in Plateau State Attack
A 25-year-old vigilante officer, identified as Daniel Danladi Choji, was killed by gunmen in Tanjol village, located in the Jol District of the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday night.
Community members reported that numerous individuals sustained injuries while fleeing into nearby bushes and rocky areas to escape the assailants, believed to be Fulani bandits.
Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), confirmed the attack in a statement released on Wednesday. He reported that the attackers descended upon the Vwak and Tanjol communities in multiple groups, firing indiscriminately until they were repelled by a joint operation involving Operation Rainbow and local security forces.
In his statement, Tengwong indicated that Choji was shot while on patrol alongside fellow operatives. He condemned the attack and urged the state government and security agencies to take immediate action to prevent future violence.
“We also urge authorities to suspend grazing activities in the affected areas, as there seems to be a connection between these movements and ongoing attacks,” Tengwong stated. He called for intensified military operations in known strongholds of armed groups, warning that failure to act decisively could result in further loss of life in Plateau State and the broader Middle Belt region.
