Nigerian Army Troops Neutralize Suspected Bandits in Taraba State
IBI, Taraba — Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, conducted a successful operation that resulted in the neutralization of two suspected bandits in the Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, which took place on May 18, 2026, was initiated following credible intelligence indicating that armed suspects were operating from a hideout in the Dooshima District, near Sarkin Kudu. In a statement released on Wednesday in Jalingo, military officials detailed that the troops swiftly mobilized for a tactical raid aimed at addressing the ongoing security threats in the region.
Upon arrival at the location of the suspected hideout, the troops encountered gunfire, leading to a fierce exchange with the armed suspects. The engagement resulted in the death of two suspected bandits. Several others reportedly fled the scene with gunshot injuries.
During the operation, military personnel recovered various items, including one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, a locally fabricated pistol, four mobile phones, and two charm vests, among other personal belongings. The recovered items have been secured and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, the Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, praised the troops for their courage and professionalism. He emphasized that the operation aligns with the directives from the Chief of Army Staff to intensify efforts against criminal activities and to restore peace in Taraba State and its neighboring areas.
In his communication, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, assured that the brigade has a reward and sanction system in place to recognize the contributions of the soldiers involved in the operation. He also encouraged local residents to continue providing timely and reliable information to support security efforts in their communities.
