Bandits abduct 13 residents in Kebbi border community

Thirteen Abducted in Midnight Attack on Kebbi Village

Thirteen residents of Tangaram Village in the Wasagu District of Kebbi State were kidnapped during a midnight assault on Sunday, local authorities confirmed.

The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m., when armed men reportedly entered the village, firing weapons indiscriminately. Eyewitnesses indicated that the assailants, arriving on motorcycles, forcibly entered homes and took the victims toward the Zamfara border.

The Kebbi State Police Command announced on Monday that the abducted individuals, all adult males, remained in captivity. Police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman stated that efforts to rescue the hostages were ongoing.

“Operations to secure the safe release of the victims and apprehend the attackers are being conducted,” Usman said. He noted that police tactical teams were collaborating with vigilante groups and other security agencies to intensify rescue efforts in areas near the border with Zamfara State.

Residents reported that Tangaram and surrounding areas have experienced a series of violent incidents, attributed to their proximity to forest corridors that link Kebbi, Zamfara, and Niger states. This region has seen numerous attacks in recent months, with some abducted individuals reportedly released after ransom payments.

An eyewitness described the night of the attack as terrifying, highlighting the chaos and fear that ensued as the assailants shot into the air while entering the village. The community faces a growing threat from such violent incidents, raising concerns about public safety in the region.
