Unity Cup: ‘I need time’ – Chelle sends clear message to Nigerian home-based players

Super Eagles Coach Aims to Develop Local Talent After Semi-Final Victory

LONDON — Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle addressed Nigerian home-based players following his team’s 2-0 victory over the Warriors of Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup semi-final on Tuesday night.

Chelle’s side secured the win thanks to a brace from forward Femi Azeez at The Valley stadium. The coach has incorporated several players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) into his roster for the tournament.

The home-based players included Michael Atata, Aderemi Adeoye, Tosin Oyedokun, Chibueze Oputa, Obinna Igbokwe, and Elias Ochobi.

In his post-match remarks, Chelle emphasized the need for further development of domestic players. “I need some time to work with them and help them become part of the small project,” he said.

Chelle expressed satisfaction with the players’ performances in the match against Zimbabwe. “Nigeria won’t stop for that. I know it’s difficult for some of them, especially if it’s their first time in Europe, but I am pleased with what they showed to Nigeria,” he added.

The coach’s comments highlight his commitment to integrating local talent into the national team while acknowledging the challenges they face on the international stage.
