Nigerian security agencies want to doctor El-Rufai’s detention recordings – Timi Frank alleges

Timi Frank, the former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised concerns regarding alleged actions by Nigerian security agencies to manipulate audio and visual recordings related to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
In a statement issued Friday, Frank claimed that El-Rufai is under “intense surveillance” while in custody, suggesting that conversations involving the former governor, his attorneys, and family members are being recorded without consent.
Frank alleged that these recordings are being altered using artificial intelligence technology to create misleading implications against El-Rufai. He stated, “Nasir El-Rufai has been subjected to intense surveillance even in detention,” asserting that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) are collaborating to monitor and manipulate his conversations.
Furthermore, he claimed that operatives are sifting through recorded material to identify segments suitable for distortion. “The plan is to use AI to distort some of these recordings to frame El-Rufai. Their intention is to leak some of these doctored recordings to the press,” he alleged.
Frank contended that this purported scheme aims to damage El-Rufai’s reputation and extend his time in detention. “It is all a part of the agenda to destroy El-Rufai, tarnish his reputation and keep him in custody,” he added.
Reports indicate that El-Rufai is currently held on separate charges by the ICPC and DSS, despite previously being granted bail. He faces allegations of national security breaches and corruption, brought against him by the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
