‘We moved to suspend Fayemi’ — Ojudu recalls Ekiti APC crisis

Former Senator Recalls Political Turmoil within APC in Ekiti State

Former Senator Babafemi Ojudu has revisited the political turmoil that affected the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State during the tenure of former Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Reflecting on the internal divisions that surfaced in 2020, Ojudu stated that he and several allies became openly critical of Fayemi’s leadership. This dissent, he claimed, prompted moves to expel them from the party.

Ojudu alleged that party ward executives faced pressure to collect signatures for their expulsion. He noted that fellow party members, including former Senator Tony Adeniyi, Oyetunde Ojo, and Bimbo Daramola, were also implicated in the discord.

He further claimed that Clement Afolabi, the chairman of his ward, was allegedly threatened, arrested, and detained for opposing the expulsion efforts.

“In response, we moved to suspend the governor and publicized our actions widely,” Ojudu said. “The situation escalated until the national leadership of the party intervened, urging both sides to resolve their differences.”

Ojudu also mentioned that security agencies became involved amid allegations of criminal libel, adding that their legal team contested the actions taken against them.
