Qatar Opposes Permanent Toll in Strait of Hormuz
SINGAPORE — Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani stated at the Shangri-La Dialogue that the country will not support the implementation of a permanent toll for passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
During his address, Sheikh Saoud indicated that while Qatar opposes a permanent fee, it is open to discussions regarding a temporary charge. He emphasized that such a fee would be negotiable if intended to assist in reopening the waterway, including efforts to clear sea mines.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route, has been a focal point of international maritime concerns.
