Insecurity: Hong chairman laments constant Boko Haram attacks in LG

Chairman Calls for Action Against Insurgency in Adamawa
HONG, Adamawa State — Inuwa Usman Wa’aganda, Chairman of the Hong Local Government Council, has urged authorities to take immediate action to address ongoing insurgent attacks that have severely affected communities in the region.
Over the past year, Hong has emerged as the most impacted local government area in Adamawa, with multiple attacks reported this month alone. During a ceremony honoring local military personnel at the council headquarters, Wa’aganda emphasized the need for decisive measures to combat the insurgency.
“Our hearts are heavy due to the insecurity that burdens us,” Wa’aganda remarked, noting that many communities have been displaced. “As the farming season approaches, farmers are fearful of returning to their farmlands.”
He appealed to the military personnel being recognized at the event to collaborate effectively and restore security to their homeland.
The reception was organized by the paramount traditional institution of Hong LGA, the Huba Chiefdom, in honor of both current and retired military and paramilitary officers from the area.
In his address, the paramount ruler, Tol Huba Alheri Bulus Nyako, expressed gratitude for the courageous military personnel affiliated with the chiefdom. “You have brought honor to us, and we are proud of you,” he stated. However, he also expressed concern over the repeated attacks by Boko Haram in recent months, urging the federal government to take proactive steps to address the violence.
The event, held at the Hong Township Stadium, attracted numerous dignitaries, including elder statesman and retired Major General Haldu Hananiya, who chaired the occasion. Hananiya noted that honoring active and retired military personnel, including those who have died in service, serves as a motivation for continued national service.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Istifanus Babadoke, commended the celebrants for their sacrifices. “Adamawa State is proud to have servicemen and women who have brought honor to our state,” he said.
