Yobe State Police Uncover Illegal Firearms Factory, Seven Arrested
Potiskum, Yobe State — The Yobe State Police Command has dismantled an illegal firearms fabrication site in Potiskum, resulting in the arrest of seven suspects. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat crime in the region.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, announced the discovery in a statement following a raid conducted on June 2, 2026, by operatives from the Potiskum Area Command.
Authorities acted on credible intelligence indicating that blacksmiths at Tasha Adua along Danchuwa Road were involved in the illicit manufacturing of dane guns and other firearms.
During the operation, police recovered several items, including two fabricated pistols, 24 muzzle pipes, nine gun butts, four unserviceable dane guns, one filing machine, and a cutlass.
“The suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation to identify their collaborators, possible buyers, and the intended use of the fabricated firearms,” Abdulkarim said.
In the statement, Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin urged investigators to broaden their search, highlighting the need to identify additional illegal firearms fabrication sites and assess the security threats these operations pose.
The police also cautioned residents against permitting their properties to be used for unlawful activities, including weapons fabrication, and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to local authorities or security agencies.
