Sokoto bandit attack: Tambuwal mourns victims, seeks enhanced security

Former Governor Tambuwal Speaks Out on Bandit Attacks in Sokoto

SOKOTO, Nigeria — Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto State and current Senator representing Sokoto South, lamented the recent attacks on the Dangulbi community in the Tureta Local Government Area. In a statement released on Tuesday, he condemned the violence, which resulted in multiple fatalities, property destruction, and the displacement of residents.

The senator characterized the assaults as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing communities in Sokoto State. He called for strengthened security measures to protect vulnerable populations.

“I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by the unfortunate attacks on Dangulbi community,” Tambuwal stated. “These repeated attacks on innocent citizens are painful, unacceptable, and a direct assault on the peace and security of our communities.”

Tambuwal extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a swift recovery to the injured. He also expressed sympathy for residents forced to flee due to the violence.

He prayed for the victims and advocated for the safe return of individuals reportedly abducted during the incidents. Tambuwal urged security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and enhance protection for communities across the Sokoto-Zamfara axis, asserting that residents should be able to live and work without fear.

“Our people deserve to live in safety and pursue their livelihoods without fear,” he said.

In his appeal, Tambuwal encouraged residents to remain united and support lawful efforts to address insecurity and foster lasting peace in the affected areas. He reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives aimed at enhancing security and safeguarding lives and property throughout Sokoto State and beyond.

The attacks in Dangulbi resulted in the deaths of at least 17 individuals on Sunday, including visitors who had traveled to the area to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir. Reports indicate that looting occurred, and many residents sought refuge in nearby forests for safety.

Less than 48 hours later, another attack was reported, exacerbating concerns about insecurity in the region.
