Troops rescue five escapees from terrorists’ enclaves in Borno

Military Rescues Five Children from Boko Haram Enclaves in Borno State

Troops involved in Operation Hadin Kai successfully rescued five children from Boko Haram terrorist strongholds in Borno State, following heightened military operations against the insurgents.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert focused on the Lake Chad region, shared details of the rescue on social media platform X. He reported that the operations took place on June 4 amid ongoing combat and perimeter clearance missions in the North-East region.

According to Makama, personnel from the 82 Division Task Force Battalion rescued two female escapees—Aisha Idrisa, 13, and Fatima Abubakar, 11—in the Amuda area of Gwoza Local Government. The girls reportedly fled from a terrorist enclave in the Sahalawa area after increased military bombardments prompted insurgents to abandon their positions.

Initial debriefings revealed that Aisha and Fatima are residents of the Pulka community and had been abducted by terrorists in 2025. Makama noted that the duo attributed their escape to sustained military pressure and bombardments that forced their captors to flee.

After their rescue, the girls were screened, documented, and subsequently reunited with their families at the Pulka Internally Displaced Persons Camp, with camp officials present.

In a related incident, three additional females—Wuriya Kaka, 12, Fauza Abu, 13, and Hussaina Usman, 13—surrendered to troops from the 26 Task Force Brigade in Gwoza after their escape from Guduf Nagadayo in the Mandara Mountains. Makama stated that the three girls are currently undergoing screening and profiling procedures in accordance with established protocols.
