NDC House of Reps aspirant urges Tinubu to declare national emergency over insecurity

NDC House Aspirant Calls for National Emergency on Insecurity
Awka, Anambra State — Ikeagwuonwu Chinedu Klinsmann, a House of Representatives aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a national emergency in response to rising insecurity across Nigeria.
In a statement released on Friday, Klinsmann emphasized that escalating incidents of killings, kidnappings, and terrorist attacks represent a significant threat to the country’s stability. He asserted that the increasing frequency of assaults on communities, highways, farms, places of worship, and educational institutions indicates a national crisis rather than isolated incidents.
“The soul of our nation bleeds,” Klinsmann stated. He expressed deep concern for the impact of violence on children, stressing that the safety of both students and teachers should be prioritized.
“When children cannot learn in safety and teachers become targets of violence, the very future of the nation is under threat,” he said. Klinsmann further noted that the deteriorating security situation is adversely affecting the economy by displacing families, discouraging investments, and forcing farmers off their lands.
He expressed that citizens, particularly those in rural areas, often feel abandoned amid repeated attacks and insufficient responses from security agencies. “This insecurity is a direct threat to Nigeria’s democracy, unity, and future,” he warned, adding that it undermines the social contract between the government and the populace.
Klinsmann attributed the current security crisis to weak leadership, inadequate intelligence gathering, poor coordination among security agencies, corruption, and ineffective use of technology. Although he acknowledged the efforts of security personnel, he called for increased funding, better equipment, and enhanced support for military and police forces.
He urged the federal government to promptly declare a national emergency on insecurity, strengthen intelligence networks, utilize modern surveillance technology, and bolster protections for schools and vulnerable communities. Additionally, Klinsmann advocated for greater transparency in defense spending and investments in agriculture, youth employment, skills development, and social protection programs to address the root causes of insecurity.
As a candidate for the Anaocha, Njikoka, and Dunukofia Federal Constituency, Klinsmann committed to supporting legislation that would fortify national security institutions and enhance oversight of public expenditures. He encouraged Nigerians to hold leaders accountable and unite to address insecurity through democratic means.
