NDLEA arrests 73 suspects in Kano drug raids

NDLEA Arrests 73 in Kano Drug Raids
KANO, Nigeria — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 73 suspects and seized various illicit substances during a series of coordinated raids across Kano State. The operation, part of the ongoing “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” took place on June 10.
The raids targeted known drug hotspots, including the Filin Mahaha drug den and the Sani Abacha Youth Centre, as well as areas in Sheka. This information was confirmed in a statement released Thursday by Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the Public Relations Officer for the Kano Strategic Command.
The agency deployed an intelligence-led approach, utilizing a “dislodge and occupy” strategy. This tactic involves law enforcement moving into identified drug locations, arresting suspects, confiscating illicit substances, and maintaining a proactive presence to deter future criminal activities.
Among the drugs recovered during the raids were cannabis sativa, diazepam, pregabalin, and Exol-5, a substance commonly referred to as “suck and die,” along with other materials related to the distribution and consumption of illegal drugs.
The NDLEA described these efforts as an integral part of its ongoing campaign to identify and dismantle major drug operations throughout the state.
Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN D.Y. Lawal, stated that the agency intends to intensify its operations until there are no safe havens for drug traffickers and users.
In addition, the NDLEA has urged local residents to contribute to anti-drug efforts by providing timely and credible information that can assist in future enforcement actions.
