‘No retirement in music’ – Peter Okoye tells critics

Nigerian Singer Peter Okoye Responds to Retirement Calls

Nigerian musician Peter Okoye, widely known as Mr. P and a former member of the now-disbanded duo P-Square, has addressed recent calls from fans urging him to retire from the music scene.

At 44 years old, Mr. P has faced criticism from some supporters who believe he should step back from performing Afrobeats at his age.

In a recent interview with The Beat FM in Lagos, he dismissed the notion of retirement in the music industry. He cited the late Michael Jackson, who continued to produce music and tour into his 50s.

“There’s no retirement in music. I don’t understand why some people believe there is,” Mr. P said. “We need to be cautious about how we speak about others’ careers. I believe those calling for my retirement are hoping for my downfall.”

He expressed his concern about the trend of urging artists to stop performing, noting that similar sentiments have been directed at other musicians, including the popular artist Wizkid.
