Car theft: Magistrates request official vehicles, packing facilities in Abia

Magistrates Association Urges Abia State Government for Enhanced Vehicle Security

The Abia State chapter of the Magistrates Association of Nigeria has formally requested that the state government provide official vehicles and secure parking facilities at court buildings. This plea comes in the wake of a recent incident involving the theft of a vehicle belonging to Chief Magistrate Ngozi Lakwa, who had parked her car near the Umuahia High Court while attending to official duties.

Orji Nnaemeka, Chairman of the Magistrates Association of Nigeria in Abia State, conveyed the association’s concerns regarding the vulnerability of its members while performing their responsibilities. The recent theft has highlighted the risks faced by magistrates who rely on public parking spaces during work.

“It is unfair and demoralizing for judicial workers to suffer personal loss while discharging their constitutional duties to the State and its citizens,” Nnaemeka stated.

The association fears that if immediate action is not taken, more of its members could become victims of similar crimes. They contend that such incidents could be mitigated through the establishment of adequately monitored and secure parking facilities by the Abia State government.
