Peter Obi does not influence anything in NDC  – Sen Umeh

Anambra Central Senator Denies Influence of Peter Obi in NDC’s Internal Affairs

Anambra Central Senator Victor Umeh has dismissed allegations that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has any sway over the party’s decision-making processes. Umeh made these remarks during an interview on Arise Television’s “Morning Show” on Monday.

His comments come amid speculation about his own involvement in influencing party positions, particularly following criticism directed at the NDC regarding its recent primary elections held nationwide.

“Peter Obi has not been involved in influencing who becomes what in the NDC,” Umeh stated. “He is not the type of person to engage in such processes.”

Umeh emphasized that Obi’s constituents are aware of their political affiliations without needing direction from him. “In my local government, where he hails from, the people are knowledgeable about their choices. He doesn’t need to tell them who to support,” he added.

The senator highlighted the leadership structure of the NDC, stating that Senator Seriake Dickson serves as the party’s chairman. Umeh noted that his own decision to join the NDC was influenced by his partnership with Dickson in the Senate, underscoring his respect for Dickson’s commitment to national issues.

Furthermore, Umeh acknowledged that the recent participation of Obi and Rabi’u Kwankwaso in the NDC has attracted increased interest from potential candidates for various positions within the party.

He also addressed claims of extortion among some party members, suggesting that those allegations stem from individuals attempting to manipulate the situation to their advantage.
