Mixed reactions trail Baba Ijesha, wife Luminee’s newborn announcement

Nollywood Actor Baba Ijesha Welcomes New Baby Amid Controversy
Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, widely known as Baba Ijesha, and his wife, Anjy Luminee, have welcomed a baby boy. The announcement, made on Tuesday, has elicited a mix of reactions across social media.
Numerous colleagues, fans, and well-wishers extended their congratulations to the couple; however, the news also revived discussions about Baba Ijesha’s previous legal issues. In 2022, he was convicted by a Lagos State High Court for the sexual assault of a minor and sentenced to 16 years in prison. This conviction was later overturned by the Court of Appeal, resulting in his release in November 2025.
Among those expressing their congratulations was social media personality Bobrisky, who faced criticism from some users for their message. Actress Moyo Lawal also received backlash after congratulating the couple, with certain users questioning her support for them.
Conversely, some defended Lawal, arguing that offering congratulations should not prompt criticism. Reality TV star Angel Smith raised questions regarding Luminee’s decision to remain married to Baba Ijesha in light of his past conviction. Commentator Daniel Regha echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that Luminee should have considered ending the marriage post-sentencing.
Notwithstanding the criticisms, several celebrities celebrated the couple’s new addition. Actor Yomi Fabiyi shared his congratulations, along with actress Olayinka Solomon and other supporters who sent goodwill messages.
The couple’s announcement has sparked widespread debate online, with opinions divided between congratulatory messages and concerns about Baba Ijesha’s history.
