Davido, Rarara trade words on social media over insecurity

A social media dispute has emerged between two prominent Nigerian musicians, Dauda Kahutu Rarara and Davido, generating significant discussion among users, particularly on the platform X.
The controversy began on Tuesday night when Rarara shared a video criticizing Davido for his recent remarks regarding security issues in Nigeria. This disagreement follows Davido’s performance during events related to the FIFA World Cup, where he donned a shirt featuring the Nigerian flag and the names of schoolchildren believed to have been abducted in Oyo State.
Last month, armed individuals claiming to be jihadists attacked a school in Oyo State, kidnapping several students and teachers. This incident has sparked national outrage and intensified scrutiny of the Nigerian government’s handling of security challenges.
In response to the ongoing situation, Davido made a post on X on Wednesday morning, urging Nigerians to speak out against the insecurity facing the nation. He stated, “Damn it, every Nigerian should not stay silent about the insecurity plaguing the nation, nor should they prevent others from voicing their concerns openly. Showing bias and prioritizing personal or political interests is nothing to be proud of. Be a patriot for your country, stop prioritizing politics over the truth, and fear God in everything you do.”
Approximately two hours later, Davido posted in Hausa, seemingly aimed at Rarara, stating: “Da ace kana da ilimi da na tsaya nayi magana dakai. Amma komai baka sani ba, sakarai kawai,” which translates to, “If you had any knowledge, I would have taken the time to argue with you. But you know absolutely nothing; you’re just a fool.”
Rarara responded in the comment section, cautioning, “Ka shiga taitayinka,” meaning, “You should be careful.”
This exchange has become one of the most talked-about topics across Nigerian social media, with supporters of both musicians engaged in heated discussions about the responsibilities of celebrities in addressing national security issues.
