2026 World Cup: Not what we wanted – Ronaldo reacts to 1-1 draw with DR Congo

Portugal Draws 1-1 with DR Congo in World Cup Opener
HOUSTON — Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his disappointment following a 1-1 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday.
Ronaldo, 41, did not add to his international goal tally, contributing only two attempts that failed to hit their mark during the match. Portugal initially took the lead with a goal from Joao Neves, but DR Congo’s Yohan Wissa equalized with a header before halftime.
Following the match, Ronaldo took to social media to address the outcome. “It’s not the start we wanted but this is FAR from being over. Focus on the next game,” he wrote.
Portugal’s next match in the group stage is scheduled against Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
