Sharia Court hands life sentence to Bauchi man who buried two victims

Katagum Sharia Court Sentences Man to Life Imprisonment for Double Murder
KATAGUM, Bauchi State — A Sharia Court in Katagum has sentenced Ibrahim Umar, known as Maidada, to life imprisonment for the murder of two men, Kabiru Idi and Muhammad Bello.
According to court proceedings, Umar killed the victims in Taranka Forest and subsequently buried their bodies in a grave he had dug.
State prosecutor Barrister Muhammad Ali stated that the defendant confessed to the crimes at the start of the trial and accepted the court’s decision on the matter.
Following the sentencing, defense counsel Barrister Ibrahim Umar Abdullahi remarked that the court had shown mercy in its decision. “Everyone has a right to defense, and we presented our case before the court. Since he pleaded guilty, the court granted life imprisonment instead of death by hanging,” Abdullahi said.
The court’s ruling highlights the balance between justice and mercy in the legal process.
