Osun State Police Launch Manhunt Following Shooting Incident
The Osun State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for suspects linked to the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy, identified as Ezekiel Olapade, and the injury of another individual. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon near the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu.
According to police reports, Olapade was struck by a stray bullet when unidentified armed men opened fire near the council’s entrance. The shooting injured another victim, whose identity has not yet been confirmed. The injured party is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police spokesperson SP Abiodun Ojelabi stated that investigations are underway, with efforts focused on apprehending the prime suspect, known as Saheed, or “Tanfeani,” along with others believed to be involved in the attack.
“The incident took place near the entrance of the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat,” Ojelabi said. “Saheed, along with accomplices, began shooting, resulting in the tragic death of Ezekiel Olapade.”
Witnesses reported that the gunmen had gathered near the local government office, allegedly attempting to enter the premises when they targeted a man wearing a political party cap at a nearby palm wine joint. The establishment, owned by Olapade’s mother, was busy with patrons when the attackers approached.
One resident, who requested anonymity, described the chaotic scene: “We were all relaxing when the armed men advanced. Everyone began to run.” The witness suggested that Olapade was likely not the intended target, stating, “In the confusion, he was hit by a bullet and died on the spot.”
Police confirmed that the assailants remain at large but assured residents that ongoing efforts are being made to bring those responsible to justice.
