Troops gun down terrorists, recover weapons in dawn raid on Katsina enclave

Operation ‘FANSAN YAMMA’ Results in Neutralization of Suspected Terrorists in Katsina State

MATAZU, Katsina – Troops participating in Operation “FANSAN YAMMA” neutralized two suspected terrorists and seized various weapons, vehicles, and livestock during a targeted raid on a terrorist enclave in the Matazu Local Government Area early Monday morning.

According to an operational report released by the military, the raid was part of the ongoing Operation Clean Sweep III and was conducted following credible intelligence regarding criminal activities in the region.

The troops from the 17 Brigade targeted the suspected hideout in Ginchawa. Upon arrival, the terrorists attempted to resist but were overpowered by the military’s superior firepower, prompting many to flee into nearby bushes.

The report indicates that military personnel pursued the retreating suspects but lost contact along their escape routes. During a thorough search of the enclave, troops recovered two PKT machine guns, a locally manufactured firearm, an AK-47 magazine containing 75 rounds of 7.62mm NATO-linked ammunition, three motorcycles, two mobile phones, and a pair of camouflage uniforms.

Additionally, the troops retrieved livestock, including cows and goats believed to have been stolen by the terrorists. The military confirmed that while two suspects were killed during the operation, several others likely escaped with gunshot injuries, as traces of blood were found at the site.

This operation is part of a broader strategy by security forces aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restricting the operational capabilities of criminal groups across North-West Nigeria.
