Young Boy Vows to Join Army Following Father’s Alleged Murder
A young boy, identified as Umar, from Magami town in the Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has expressed his intention to join the Nigerian Army in pursuit of justice for his father, whom he claims was killed by suspected bandits.
Umar’s pledge was highlighted in a video shared on X by journalist Bakatsine, who covers conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West region. In the footage, the boy recounts witnessing his father’s murder, an event that has fueled his aspiration to serve as a soldier.
In the interview conducted in Hausa, Umar described the harrowing circumstances surrounding his father’s death. He stated that his father was attacked shortly after returning from the market, where he had harvested and sold seven baskets of red pepper. The proceeds were intended to provide food for the family, including rice.
Umar noted that his father had plans for a family meal and had gone to retrieve fresh pepper for soup when he was attacked. “He came back after harvesting seven baskets of pepper. He bought food items and rice for us. He wanted us to cook and eat together, but as he was returning from the farm, they killed him,” Umar recounted.
The boy further alleged that the attackers later entered their home and assaulted family members.
When asked about his future, Umar reiterated his ambition to become a soldier, emphasizing that his father’s killing profoundly influenced his decision. He expressed a desire for revenge against those responsible for the tragedy, while also praying for divine mercy for his deceased father and other victims of violence.
