Yobe State Police Arrest Two in Newborn Death Investigation

Police in Yobe State have detained two individuals in connection with the death of a newborn baby girl, whose body was reportedly concealed in a box and discarded behind a mosque in Damaturu.

The Yobe State Police Command launched an investigation following a distress call received on June 23. According to police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim, officers from the Violent Crime Response Unit responded to reports of the incident in the Anguwar Boka area.

“On June 23, 2026, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit responded to a distress call regarding the alleged killing of a newborn baby and the concealment of her remains in the Anguwar Boka area of Damaturu,” Abdulkarim said.

Initial findings suggest that the baby girl was strangled before her body was hidden in a box and disposed of. Following this discovery, detectives promptly arrested two suspects, who are currently assisting with the investigation.

“Swift police intervention led to the arrest of two suspects. They are presently in custody and helping investigators as efforts continue to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident,” Abdulkarim noted.

The police indicated that the investigation is ongoing and are committed to ensuring justice is served.
