Operation kosaye: Police arrest 88 suspects, rescue five kidnap victims in Lagos, Ogun

Lagos State Governor Commends Security Forces Following Operation Kosaye

LAGOS—Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has praised security agencies for their recent efforts in combating crime, particularly in connection with Operation Kosaye. The operation has resulted in the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapping victims, and the seizure of significant amounts of arms and ammunition across Lagos and Ogun states.

A statement from the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, noted that the operation included a confrontation in which four suspected criminals were killed during an exchange of gunfire with security personnel.

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to the police and other law enforcement agencies, assuring the public that the state government will maintain its support for initiatives designed to enhance security in Lagos.

“We will continue to work with the police and other security agencies to ensure that our state is safe and secure for residents and visitors,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

The governor also highlighted the effective collaboration between law enforcement in Lagos and Ogun states, commending the leadership of the police and the efforts directed by Inspector-General Tunji Disu.

“The cooperation between both states exemplifies effective teamwork,” he said.

The statement indicated that the increased visibility of police forces across Lagos and Ogun has led to suspects being paraded and recovered weapons displayed, serving as a deterrent to criminal activity in both regions.

Operation Kosaye, which translates to “no space for criminals,” is a strategic offensive targeting kidnapping syndicates, armed robbery groups, and various violent criminal networks in the South-West of Nigeria. Security operatives are actively searching forested areas along the boundary between Lagos and Ogun states, particularly in the Ogbere area.

The police have reiterated their commitment to eradicating safe havens for criminals, particularly kidnappers, through ongoing intelligence-led operations.

Governor Sanwo-Olu encouraged residents to assist security agencies by providing information on criminal activities and hideouts.

“We will strive to ensure our law enforcement agencies are well motivated through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund,” he added.
