‘Kebbi not under siege’ — State govt counters claims of insecurity

Kebbi State Government Addresses Security Concerns

The Kebbi State Government has rebuffed claims that the state is under siege, asserting that current security challenges do not indicate a collapse of law and order. In response to a recent article titled “Kebbi Under Siege: A Governor Without a Plan,” the government issued a statement on Sunday through Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki.

The statement described the article’s assertions as exaggerated and misaligned with the realities in Kebbi. It emphasized that schools, markets, and government institutions continue to operate normally, while agricultural activities persist in numerous communities.

Officials also countered allegations regarding Governor Nasir Idris’s lack of a security strategy, emphasizing that security is a top priority for the administration. The government has taken proactive measures, including providing over 100 operational vehicles to security agencies and distributing more than 3,000 motorcycles to vigilante groups and community security organizations to enhance surveillance and rapid response capabilities.

Additionally, more than 3,000 local vigilantes have been recruited, trained, and integrated into the state’s security framework to strengthen intelligence gathering and collaboration with conventional security forces. Local Government Security Committees have also been reactivated to improve intelligence sharing, conflict resolution, and coordinated responses to emerging threats at the community level.

The government highlighted its involvement in operations that facilitated the release of abducted schoolgirls from Maga in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, describing this as evidence of its commitment to addressing security issues.

While acknowledging the challenges that exist, state officials urged the public to disregard narratives that could incite panic and undermine ongoing security efforts. The government reiterated its dedication to supporting security agencies and implementing measures to protect lives and property throughout Kebbi State.
