Sokoto State Government Responds to Deadly Terrorist Attack
SOKOTO, Nigeria — The Sokoto State Government has directed security agencies to ramp up operations against the Lakurawa terrorist group following a recent attack that left 32 residents and four soldiers dead.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Office of the Special Adviser on Security Matters, the state expressed condolences to the families of the victims, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the residents affected by the violence.
The government noted that 13 members of the Lakurawa group were killed during the incident, as local residents confronted the assailants.
Describing the slain soldiers as “gallant” individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of the nation, the statement emphasized community resilience in the face of the attack. It called for prayers for the deceased and a swift recovery for the injured.
Authorities have activated emergency medical assistance for victims and those displaced by the violence. A high-level delegation, led by the Deputy Governor, is scheduled to visit the affected communities to offer condolences, assess damage, and pinpoint areas needing immediate support.
In its ongoing efforts to combat insecurity, the state government announced plans to enhance cooperation among security agencies, local vigilantes, and local government councils to improve intelligence sharing and rapid responses to threats.
Residents of affected and neighboring communities have been urged to remain calm and vigilant, providing timely and reliable information to security forces. The government is actively engaging with the federal government and relevant security bodies to strengthen security presence and coordinated efforts against the Lakurawa threat.
The Sokoto State Government reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, stating that it will continue collaborating with security agencies to restore normalcy in the affected communities.
