Seventy-Six ISWAP Commanders Surrender to Nigerian Military

ABUJA, Nigeria — Seventy-six commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have surrendered to the Nigerian military, according to a statement released on Monday by Captain Mohammed Goni, spokesman for Operation Hadin Kai.

Goni attributed the mass surrender to intensified air and ground offensives targeting terrorist strongholds in the North-East region of Nigeria. He explained that sustained military pressure, supported by intelligence-led operations, led the terrorists to abandon their camps.

The military spokesperson’s statement indicated that several senior ISWAP figures are among those who turned themselves in. They are currently being held in a secure location, where they are undergoing profiling and debriefing, as part of established operational protocols.

The military emphasized that this development highlights the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and disrupt their command and logistics operations. Additionally, the surrender of fighters, some accompanied by their families, illustrates a continuing decline in the group’s operational strength and morale.
