Body of Missing Man Found at Illegal Mining Site in Plateau State
JOS, Plateau State — Authorities recovered the body of a man previously reported missing from an illegal mining site in the Jos South Local Government Area on June 29.
Counter-insurgency and security expert Zagazola Makama announced the development on his verified X account. He reported that members of Sector 3, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), were alerted around 7:30 a.m. about the disappearance of Mr. Jerry from the Rantya area.
In response to the report, OPEP troops collaborated with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to conduct a search-and-rescue operation in the nearby bushland. The search team eventually located Jerry’s body at the mining site, where it reportedly bore signs of gunshot wounds and machete cuts.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Jerry had ventured to the area for illegal mining activities and did not return, raising concerns among family members that led to the search.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the killing and are working to identify those responsible.
