Delivery of road infrastructure fortifying Kwali as FCT’s agric hub – Tinubu
President Tinubu Highlights Importance of New Road Infrastructure in Kwali Area
Kwali, FCT – President Bola Tinubu emphasized the significance of new road infrastructure in the Kwali Area Council, highlighting its role in establishing the region as a food-producing hub for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Tinubu delivered these remarks on Tuesday, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, during the inauguration of the newly constructed Gomani-Dafa-Yangoji Road.
The president pointed out that the new road corridor would facilitate quicker transportation of agricultural produce, allowing farmers to more efficiently reach markets and reducing post-harvest losses. He underlined that the development positions Kwali to thrive as a sustainable food source for the FCT and its surrounding areas.
“Development must reach every Nigerian, not just those in urban centers,” Tinubu said. He added that roads like this help families stay in their communities, enabling them to build their lives at home.
“The wealth of this nation belongs to all of us, regardless of where we live,” he stated. He expressed concern about the long-standing challenges faced by rural areas due to inadequate road access, which has led to crop waste and youth migration.
“The situation has changed today,” he noted, commending FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his leadership in implementing impactful projects throughout the area.
Wike explained that the road projects were initiated following a request from Etsu Kwali, Luka Nizassan III, during a meeting with local stakeholders. This engagement aligned with Tinubu’s directive to involve community members in identifying developmental needs.
He remarked that the community engagement was the first step toward ensuring local participation in project planning. Wike reiterated Tinubu’s call for balanced development between urban and rural areas.
“Since the inauguration of projects began on June 9, this marks the fourth project launched in rural communities,” he said.
Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, noted the Gomani-Dafa-Yangoji Road’s significance within a 43.4-kilometer secondary road project. The road connects the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway to various localities, improving access for residents.
He provided a breakdown of the project, detailing the segments completed and those still in progress. The first segment, A2 to Pai, was inaugurated in June 2025. The ongoing second segment, from Pai to Gomani, is 15.4 kilometers long, while the final segment connects Gomani to Dafa and Yangoji, spanning 13 kilometers.
The new infrastructure aims to enhance connectivity and support economic growth within the Kwali Area Council.
