Transfer: Chelsea move for second Xabi Alonso signing with talks underway
Chelsea Initiates Discussions to Acquire Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano
Chelsea Football Club has begun negotiations with Rayo Vallecano for the potential transfer of left-back Pep Chavarria. The move comes on the heels of Marc Cucurella’s departure to Real Madrid in a transfer deal valued at £52 million, which has left Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, seeking reinforcements for the left side of defense.
Chavarria, 28, remains under contract with Rayo Vallecano for four more years. Reports from Football London indicate that Chelsea is actively pursuing a transfer agreement for the defender, who played a significant role in Rayo Vallecano’s performance last season.
During the previous campaign, Chavarria made 44 appearances across all competitions and was instrumental in Rayo’s run to the Conference League final and an eighth-place finish in La Liga. He is versatile, capable of playing both as a left back and as a wing back.
In addition to Chavarria, Chelsea has already secured Marco Palestra from Atalanta—pending official confirmation—aiming for the defender to be the second signing under Alonso’s management. This would exclude any prior agreements made before Alonso’s appointment.
