Yobe Police Arrest Eight Suspects in Theft Operation
DAMATURU, Yobe State — Eight individuals have been apprehended in connection with a series of thefts in Damaturu, as law enforcement intensifies efforts to combat rising crime in the area.
The Yobe State Police Command announced the arrests in a statement on Wednesday, detailing a major operation conducted on Monday. The initiative was spearheaded by officers from the ‘A’ Division in collaboration with local vigilantes, following reliable intelligence regarding criminal activities in the region.
“Recent reports of shop breaking and theft in the Abbari, Nasarawa, and Gwange areas prompted the coordinated operation,” the police statement read.
Those arrested include:
- Abdullahi Musa, 18, of Abbari
- Khalifa Mohammed, 20, of Gwange
- Alhassan Ali, 21, of Nayinawa
- Ibrahim Shehu, 21, of Abbari
- Ali Mohammed, 22, of Abbari
- Abba Shetima, 21, of Pompomari
- Boniface Cosmos, 25, of Jerusalem
- Sakinat Usman, 46, of Nasarawa
Preliminary investigations indicate the group is linked to multiple incidents of burglary and shoplifting. The suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement and are assisting police with ongoing inquiries.
Recovered items from the operation include two five-liter gallons of Kings vegetable oil, 40 packs of Indomie noodles, 132 sachets of Peak powdered milk, and three Android mobile phones.
Authorities are continuing efforts to recover additional stolen property and apprehend other suspects who may still be at large. The police also urged local business owners and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities.
