Former Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic expressed confidence in England’s potential to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, contingent on captain Harry Kane’s continued scoring success.
Ibrahimovic made his comments following England’s 2-1 victory over DR Congo in the World Cup Round of 32. Kane’s two goals were pivotal in the team’s advancement to the Round of 16.
“Harry Kane, he did three things. Two goals and one run he did,” Ibrahimovic said in an interview with Fox Sports.
He further noted the competitive landscape, stating, “We talk about Messi for Argentina, France with Mbappe, but they have other superstars also.”
Identifying Kane as a central figure for England, Ibrahimovic emphasized the importance of sustained high performance. “Sir Harry Kane is England, and the way he performed today, he needs to continue like that if this England is going to have a chance,” he said.
