World Cup 2026: ‘Go and cry now’ – Moroccan star mocks Senegal after Belgium defeat
Moroccan Player Mocked Senegal Following World Cup Exit
Mohamed Chibi, a Moroccan international footballer, has drawn attention on social media after making a derogatory post directed at Senegal. This occurred shortly after Senegal’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup, where they lost to Belgium 3-2 in a Round of 32 match that extended into extra time.
Senegal relinquished a two-goal lead in the match held Wednesday, ultimately succumbing to Belgium. Chibi, who was not included in Morocco’s 2026 squad by head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, took to Instagram to share a clip from the match, highlighting the final score. His caption read, “go and cry now,” an apparent taunt at Senegal’s defeat.
The rivalry between Morocco and Senegal may be fueled by past tensions, notably stemming from the Africa Cup of Nations final on January 18, 2026. In that match, Senegal players protested a disallowed goal and a VAR ruling during stoppage time, leaving the pitch temporarily. The match concluded without a score in regular time, but Pape Gueye’s goal in extra time secured Senegal the AFCON title. However, due to their players’ temporary exit, Senegal was subsequently stripped of the title, with Morocco being declared champions. Senegal has since appealed this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Chibi’s social media post underlines the ongoing intensity of the rivalry, particularly as Morocco has advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating the Netherlands on penalties, while Senegal now faces an early exit from the tournament.
