Ojo-Iba Specialist Hospital 90% Complete— Lagos Govt

LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lagos State Government announced that the Ojo-Iba Secondary Specialist Hospital is 90 percent complete and is expected to open by the end of the year. Health Commissioner Akin Abayomi shared the update in a statement on his X account following an inspection of the facility on August 17.
Abayomi highlighted that the hospital would provide modern healthcare services to residents of Ojo, Iba, and surrounding communities. “Ojo-Iba Secondary Specialist Hospital is now 90% complete, bringing us closer to delivering a modern healthcare facility for the people of Ojo, Iba, and the surrounding communities,” he stated.
The hospital will feature advanced medical technology, including state-of-the-art CT and MRI scanners, as well as comprehensive laboratory diagnostic capabilities. The inspection included various sections of the hospital, such as staff quarters designed to accommodate personnel.
According to Abayomi, the facility will also incorporate renewable energy solutions, with plans for a solar farm to supply approximately 60% of its electricity needs. This initiative aims to decrease reliance on the local power grid and diesel generators.
The commissioner noted that the surrounding environment is also being taken into account, including the relocation of an adjacent unplanned market. Structural issues caused by rainfall were identified during the inspection and will be addressed prior to the hospital’s completion.
Abayomi conducted the inspection alongside the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, and other officials from relevant ministries and agencies. He emphasized that the government aims to ensure that the hospital’s infrastructure, power supply, access, and surrounding environment are fully prepared for long-term operation.
“As we advance, our focus is not merely on completing the buildings but on ensuring that all essential infrastructure is ready for long-term operations,” he said.
He indicated that inspections would increase in frequency as the project moves closer to completion and equipping. “Our goal is to have Ojo-Iba Specialist Hospital operational by the end of the year, enhancing the capacity of Lagos State’s healthcare system and providing quality healthcare closer to the communities of Ojo and Iba,” Abayomi remarked.
He characterized the initiative as a significant investment in the health and well-being of Lagos residents, asserting that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is committed to bringing the facility into operation before the conclusion of his administration.
