Lagos motorist burnt to de@th in Lekki-Epe expressway accident involving truck

The driver of a Toyota Highlander Jeep was burnt to death after his vehicle burst into flames following a collision with a truck on the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Thursday, January 9.

 

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the mid-day crash occurred after Okegun/Seaport, inward Epe. He said the accident involved a Toyota Highlander SUV (GGE 432 JC) and an empty Sino tipper truck.

 

According to eyewitnesses, the Highlander, travelling inward Ajah, lost control, veered across the expressway, and collided with the tipper truck heading toward Epe.

 

The collision caused the Highlander to catch fire, trapping the driver inside.

 

LASTMA officers and the Lagos State Fire Services (Epe Division) extinguished the blaze and recovered the driver’s remains. His body was handed over to family members at the scene.

 

“Security operatives from the Epe Police Division provided essential support throughout the rescue and recovery operations, ensuring the safety and coordination of efforts at the scene,” Bakare-Oki stated

 

He extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for divine strength to endure their loss. Bakare-Oki urged motorists to prioritise road safety and maintain their vehicles to prevent avoidable tragedies.
