Kano Hisbah Board Arrests Man for Alleged Human Trafficking Attempt

KANO, Nigeria — A 25-year-old man identified as Bala Haruna has been arrested by operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board for allegedly attempting to traffic two girls for domestic work in Arab countries.

The Deputy Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, announced the arrest on Friday, stating that it occurred on Thursday at a city car park as Haruna was reportedly preparing to transport the girls out of town.

Haruna, a resident of Kazaure Local Government Area in Jigawa State, was apprehended alongside 23-year-old Fatima Safiyanu from Daura in Katsina State and 11-year-old Hasiya Haruna from Kazaure.

Ongoing investigations aim to determine the specifics of how Haruna intended to facilitate the girls’ travel, with plans for appropriate legal action pending.

Dr. Aminuddeen emphasized the importance of vigilance, warning women, parents, and the broader community to be cautious of individuals recruiting for domestic work abroad. He urged potential job seekers to thoroughly verify the legitimacy of any job offers before proceeding.

The suspects have been turned over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation.
