Boko Haram burns trucks, official vehicles in Yobe

Boko Haram Insurgents Attack Geidam Town, Destroy Four Vehicles

GEIDAM, Yobe State – Suspected members of Boko Haram launched an early morning attack on Geidam town, reportedly destroying four vehicles, including trucks carrying goods valued at millions of naira. The incident took place around 4:30 a.m. on Friday in the Geidam Local Government Area.

Residents indicated that the assailants entered the town while many locals were still asleep and targeted vehicles parked in front of the Geidam Local Government Secretariat. Initial reports confirm that a Toyota Hilux and a Sharon bus, both belonging to the local government, were set ablaze.

Witnesses stated that as the attackers left the secretariat, they encountered two trucks. One of these was loaded with merchandise from traders who had participated in the weekly market. “The insurgents set the truck and all the goods on fire. Nothing was taken,” one resident recounted.

Additionally, an articulated vehicle parked in the market premises was also destroyed, bringing the total number of vehicles consumed by fire to four.

Residents noted a shift in the insurgents’ tactics, observing that they abandoned motorcycles in favor of moving on foot to evade detection by security forces. “In the past, they usually rode motorcycles into the town, but now they park them outside and move in on foot,” said a local resident. “They knew exactly where they were going.”

In light of the incident, affected residents are calling on the Federal Government, the Yobe State Government, and security agencies to enhance security measures. “We appeal for more personnel, equipment, and support to effectively address the insurgent threat,” another resident added.

The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident through spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim. Further details regarding the response from security forces are awaited.
